Once a year in September, the IAFF holds its annual Fallen Firefighter Memorial Service in Colorado Springs, CO. This is to honour those killed in the line of duty in the past year and all firefighters who have given the ultimate sacrifice. This also includes those who have died as a result of occupational diseases such as cancer. Any time a member or former member of Local 80 is added to the memorial wall and his or her name read out, Local 80 Executive make the trip, often accompaning the Firefighter's family members. This year Ed Zelinski was honoured and his name added to the wall. Ed passed away from cancer, known to have been caused by firefighting. Secretary Hogan and Executive Member Joel McNair traveled with members of Ed's family to Colorado Springs for the ceremony on September 17. Joel can be seen front and centre in the photo above.
